Flow Jamaica Offers 100Mbps Internet Speeds & Worldwide Comparison
8 Flares 8 Flares ×

Flow Jamaica, Jamaica’s premier telecommunications provider has started offering 100 megabits per second to its business and residential customers since October of this year and at affordable rates. The new product offering comes tiered with slower speeds of 12, 20 and 50 Mbps and prices range from $2,450 up to $10,995 plus tax. The company launches the increased speeds on its US$250 Million infrastructure which company officials state, are not limited by capacity and speed issues.

Currently, Flow offers the fastest speeds in the island and compliments the mobile broadband solutions offered by Digicel and LIME.

The most important goal that Flow could take on at this point is to increase the number of households that have access to broadband internet, with only about 55% internet penetration on the island. As more Jamaicans become exposed and gain full-time access to the internet we will see greater development and innovation of Jamaican ventures online.

Although, Flow boasts an offering of 100Mbps, network status and fluctuations will vary and the actual throughput will vary at times.

Global Broadband Speed Comparisons

There’s no doubt that Flow’s offering is among the fastest worldwide and matches technologies with countries in Europe as well as Japan and boast the fastest in the Caribbean. The infographic below gives an average of internet speeds across the world and should give some insight into where broadband technology in Jamaica is heading.

Note: The infographic displays speeds in Kbps. Mbps figures are ascertained by dividing them by 1,000. Click the image to view in full size

This makes no sense 2 me at all. Flow Jamaica’s internet speed in mbps is “supposedly” 100 which means that it is 1000 * 100 in kbps which would be 100,000kbps, while the fastest connection speed displayed on the infographic is at its maximum a meager 32,708. That wouldd make Jamaica the little third world country we are be the hosts to the fastest internet connection in the world???????? my knowledge here is limited so i am open to an explanation.

oh i probably should have stated that South Korea: which is the country that is said to host the fastest internet speed, a maximum of of 32,708 is being measured in kbps, which wud therefore mean that it boasts a connection speed of 32.708 mbps, as opposed to Jamaica’s 100 mbps.
